Toilet Paper and Paper Towel Roll Sizes Explained: Double, Mega, Super Mega and More
A Mega Roll from one brand isn’t the same size as another’s. Here is what every roll name means and the one number that lets you compare any two packs.
Double Roll, Triple Roll, Mega Roll, Super Mega, Mega XL, Family Mega. Roll names are meant to tell you how big a roll is, but they aren't standard across brands. A Charmin Mega Roll and an Angel Soft Mega Roll can hold very different numbers of sheets.
Here's what the names usually mean, and how to compare any two packs properly.
Toilet paper roll sizes
Each name tells you roughly how many "regular" rolls one roll replaces, as printed on the brand's packaging:

The "regular roll" is different for each brand too, so treat the multiplier as a rough guide.

Select-A-Size and Choose-A-Sheet towels count each small sheet as one sheet, so their numbers run higher than full-sheet rolls of the same size.
The only fair comparison: total sheets
Ignore roll names when you compare value. Do this instead:
Total sheets = number of rolls × sheets per roll
Then divide the price by total sheets to get cost per sheet. Two examples from our store:
- Angel Soft, 36 Mega Rolls: 36 × 320 = 11,520 sheets
- Scott 1000, 20 Rolls: 20 × 1,000 = 20,000 sheets

Will bigger rolls fit my holder?
Most standard toilet paper holders fit Mega Rolls. Super Mega and Mega XL rolls are wider in diameter, and some recessed or decorative holders can be too tight. Paper towel Mega Rolls fit most countertop and wall holders, but some under-cabinet holders are too narrow. If you're unsure, measure the space before ordering a large pack.
Why roll sizes keep changing
Brands adjust sheet counts and sheet sizes over time, often without changing the roll name. That's why two packs of "12 Mega Rolls" from the same brand can have different sheet counts. We include sheets per roll in product titles wherever the brand publishes it, so you can see exactly what you're getting.
