How to Save Money on Toilet Paper: Price per Sheet and Bulk Packs
Spend less on toilet paper without settling: how to compare price per 100 sheets, why roll names mislead, and when bulk packs and Subscribe & Save pay off.

Toilet paper is one of the few things every home buys again and again, so small savings per roll add up over a year. The cheapest-looking pack is not always the best deal, though. Roll names, sheet counts and ply all change what you actually get for your money.
This guide shows how to save money on toilet paper the right way: how to compare price per sheet, when bulk packs pay off and how to cut costs without settling for a roll your family does not like.

How to save money on toilet paper: the short answer
To save money on toilet paper, compare packs by price per 100 sheets instead of price per pack, buy the largest pack you can store in a dry place, and choose the ply your family actually needs. On TissuPaper, Subscribe & Save takes another 10% off, so you never pay rush prices when you run out.
1. Compare price per 100 sheets, not price per pack
A pack of 12 rolls can hold far more or far less paper than another pack of 12. Brands use different roll sizes and sheet counts. The fairest way to compare is price per 100 sheets.
How to work it out: divide the pack price by the total number of sheets, then multiply by 100. Total sheets are usually printed on the pack and listed on each product page. The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology calls unit pricing one of the most useful tools for comparing value, as explained in its guide to unit prices.
| Pack on TissuPaper | Ply | Price | Total sheets | Price per 100 sheets |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Angel Soft Ultra, 12 Mega Rolls | 2-ply | $18.95 | 3,840 | about $0.49 |
| Cottonelle Ultra Clean, 12 Mega Rolls | 1-ply | $18.15 | 3,408 | about $0.53 |
| Quilted Northern Ultra Plush, 6 Mega Rolls | 3-ply | $9.50 | 1,530 | about $0.62 |
| Charmin Ultra Soft, 12 Mega Rolls | 2-ply | $25.15 | 2,496 | about $1.01 |
Prices as of November 2026. For a full look at these brands, see our toilet paper brand comparison.
2. Don't trust roll names alone
"Double," "Mega," "Super Mega" and "Mega XL" are not standard sizes across brands. A Mega Roll from one brand can hold a different number of sheets than a Mega Roll from another. In the table above, a Charmin Ultra Soft Mega Roll has 208 sheets, while an Angel Soft Ultra Mega Roll has 320.
Our guide to toilet paper and paper towel roll sizes shows how each brand counts them.
3. Think about ply and how much you use
A 1-ply sheet is thinner, so many people use a few more sheets per trip. A 3-ply sheet is thicker, so some people use fewer. Price per sheet is a starting point, but the real cost depends on how your family uses it.
If your home uses a lot of 1-ply sheets per trip, a cheaper roll can end up costing about the same as a thicker one. Read 1-ply vs 2-ply vs 3-ply toilet paper to find the right balance.
4. Buy bulk toilet paper when you have the space
Larger packs often cost less per sheet than small ones. Here is the same Cottonelle Ultra Clean roll in three pack sizes:
| Cottonelle Ultra Clean pack | Price | Total sheets | Price per 100 sheets |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 Mega Rolls | $18.15 | 3,408 | about $0.53 |
| 24 Mega Rolls | $29.95 | 6,816 | about $0.44 |
| 36 Mega Rolls | $33.00 | 10,224 | about $0.32 |
Prices as of November 2026. In this case, the 36-roll pack costs about 40% less per sheet than the 12-roll pack. Store bulk packs indoors, away from damp garages and basements, so the rolls stay soft and strong. Shop the full Cottonelle toilet paper range to compare sizes.
5. Know how much your home uses
Buying too little means extra orders. Buying far too much ties up money and shelf space. A quick count of how many rolls you use in a month tells you which pack size fits.

6. Use Subscribe & Save
On TissuPaper, Subscribe & Save takes 10% off toilet paper, paper towels and facial tissue, with delivery every 2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks. Pick the schedule that matches how fast your home goes through a pack.
Pairing a large pack with Subscribe & Save is one of the simplest ways to lower your cost per sheet and skip last-minute store runs.

- Office or rental: large or coreless rolls that need fewer changes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest toilet paper per sheet?
Among the 12-roll and 6-roll packs we compared, Angel Soft Ultra had the lowest price at about $0.49 per 100 sheets, followed by Cottonelle Ultra Clean at about $0.53. Larger packs can go lower. Cottonelle Ultra Clean 36 Mega Rolls works out to about $0.32 per 100 sheets.
Is buying toilet paper in bulk cheaper?
Usually, yes. In our example, the same Cottonelle Ultra Clean roll costs about $0.53 per 100 sheets in a 12-pack and about $0.32 in a 36-pack. Bulk only saves money if you have a dry place to store it and your home will use it.
How do I calculate toilet paper price per sheet?
Divide the pack price by the total sheets in the pack. Multiply by 100 to get the price per 100 sheets. For example, $18.95 divided by 3,840 sheets is about $0.0049 per sheet, or about $0.49 per 100 sheets. Use the same method for every pack you compare.
Is 1-ply toilet paper cheaper than 2-ply?
Often it costs less per sheet, but not always per trip. Many people use more 1-ply sheets each time, which can cancel out the savings. Compare price per 100 sheets first, then think about how much your family uses with each type.
