If you're not sure, start with Ultra Soft. It's the one most people mean when they say "Charmin." Choose Ultra Strong if you want a sheet that doesn't tear or leave pieces behind.
Charmin roll sizes, explained
- Mega Roll: about 4 regular rolls, as printed on Charmin's packaging. This is the most common size.
- Mega XL and Mega XXL: the same width, with more sheets on each roll, so you change rolls less often.
- Super Mega: 366 to 396 sheets per roll.
- Forever Roll: a giant roll that sits on its own holder. Start with the Forever Roll Starter Kit, then reorder refills.
Roll names differ between packs, so the easiest way to compare is total sheets. We list sheets per roll in the product title wherever Charmin publishes it.
How long does a pack last?
A household of four uses roughly 228 sheets a day (about 57 sheets per person). At that rate:
- Ultra Soft, 18 Mega Rolls (4,032 sheets): about 2.5 weeks
- Ultra Strong, 24 Mega Rolls (5,808 sheets): about 3.5 weeks
- Ultra Soft, 30 Jumbo Rolls (6,630 sheets): about 4 weeks
- Essentials Strong, 48 Mega Rolls (20,592 sheets): about 3 months
Smaller households, or homes with more than one bathroom stocked at once, will see different numbers, but the ratio between packs stays the same.
Getting the best price per sheet

Is Charmin toilet paper septic-safe?
Yes. Charmin states that all of its toilet paper is safe for septic systems. That includes Ultra Soft, Ultra Strong, Ultra Gentle and both Essentials lines.
What's the difference between Charmin Ultra Soft and Ultra Strong?
Both are 2-ply. Ultra Soft is thicker and more cushiony. Ultra Strong has a firmer, textured sheet that holds together better when wet. Pick by feel: comfort first, or strength first.
How many regular rolls is a Charmin Mega Roll?
About 4. A pack of 12 Mega Rolls is roughly the same amount of toilet paper as 48 regular rolls.
Which Charmin is the cheapest per sheet?
Essentials Strong. It's 1-ply with 429 sheets on each Mega Roll, so it costs the least per sheet of any Charmin line.
Is Charmin bathroom tissue the same as toilet paper?
Yes. Charmin uses "bathroom tissue" and "bath tissue" on some packs, but it's the same product.
